I need some sunshine... It is that time of the year when some of us, even many of us, get that change of the season cold or the flu. I am suffering today, but, am making some homemade 'feel good' soup. It is always the best remedy. Most people would say chicken soup is the best, and, while it is wonderful, my 'feel good' soup is a sure remedy, for it has most of the stuff you need to heal and rebuild your immune system...
It is, a piece of beef, or chicken, cubed and sauteed. Add onion, celery, carrot, potato, cabbage, fresh garlic, tomatoes (fresh or canned, preferably Roma tomatoes), garlic powder, thyme, chili powder, water, beef or chicken bouillon (1-2 cubes, preferably Herb Ox, as it does not contain any artificial additives), peas, green beans, kidney beans, and some pepper. You can add seasoned salt instead of the bouillon, but, it tastes a bit different. The onion, garlic, celery and carrot are all immune boosters. The cabbage, green beans, and peas are full of vitamins and minerals and are full of antioxidants. The potatoes offer potassium, and the kidney beans and meat are protein plus... So, you see, this is why I call it my 'feel good' soup. Oh, and the tomatoes add lypocene and vitamins...Of course, there are much more complex components to this soup as far as nutrition goes, but, I have covered the basics of it...
When we are sick, our cells start suffering, this is one reason we need plenty of fluids, and, soup is a fluid. We need lots of vitamins, minerals and water. Soup fulfills a large part of this. As does water, tea, and juice, although some juices are ineffective for healing, they still constitute some healthy advantages. Healing our cells is a direct link to healing our immune system...Also effective are fruits, although some fruits are considered not so desirable during illness; ones we should eat are oranges, grapefruit, grapes, bananas and apples...
Tea plays an important role in healing, as in has natural antioxidants and trace elements, and, certain teas contain either vitamins and nutrients, or both. Oolong tea is very rich in nutrients. Rose Hips tea is rich in Vitamin C. White tea is the purest for antioxidants, but, almost any tea will suffice. Of course, there are teas and tea blends and tea recipes for the ailment you are experiencing, and, since winter is not far away, I will be bringing many of these to this site, as some of them are as potent as my 'feel good' soup... Ha!
Well, I am off to get stronger and rest... Take care and send me some sunshine, please....
